One of the things that drew me to the Cambridge MBA was the chance to be part of something bigger – especially in the climate and energy space. Coming from an engineering background with over 5 years in the biofuels industry, I’d had plenty of conversations around energy transition, but I was looking for something deeper. And I’ve definitely found that here.

From day one, I knew I wanted to be involved with the energy initiatives during my time at Cambridge Judge Business School. The Cambridge University Energy Network (CUEN) is a university wide society that brings together students and professionals from across departments to explore and advance the future of energy. Also the business school has an internal Energy and Environment SIG (Special Interest Group), which has honestly been one of the most active and exciting parts of the MBA experience for me. From company treks to Climate First, RWE, SSE Group, to informal mixers with energy professionals from LBS and Said Business School – it’s been an amazing space to meet like minded people and learn from all corners of the industry.

This year’s CUEN Conference theme, “Tackling the Energy Trilemma,” really resonated with me. It’s about finding that tricky balance between delivering energy that’s clean, secure, and affordable. Having worked in a developing country, affordability and scalability have always been top of mind for me when evaluating any new tech. But my perspective has definitely widened here. Every conversation with classmates or alumni has helped me see the same challenge through different lenses – be it policy, finance, or deep tech.

Being part of the organising committee has been hectic, sure – but also incredibly rewarding. The CUEN team is made up of some of the most motivated and brilliant people I’ve met, and we’ve all learned a lot just by working together. Big shout-out to the entire CUEN crew – it’s been such a fun and inspiring group to work with, and none of this would have come together without everyone’s drive and energy.

I’m especially looking forward to hearing from Paul Stein (CEO, Floral Energy Limited) and Lucas Barros (Chemicals Manager, Argus Media), among others, who are tackling big energy questions with innovation. And while we’ve all had a full plate juggling MBA lectures, group work, and recruiting, this annual conference has been a real highlight – a space where everything we are learning on the MBA and beyond, actually comes together.

If you’re at Cambridge or just curious about the future of energy, CUEN is the place to be.

The 9th annual Cambridge University Energy Network (CUEN) conference will be hosted at Cambridge Judge Business School on Friday 30th May 2025.
