From One Call to a Community: Preparing for the Cambridge MBA with Indonesian alumni

What started as a quick chat with just one alumnus and one cohort member quickly scaled into a much larger initiative. Invitations poured in, resulting in offline and online meetups in Jakarta that brought together eight alumni to speak with our incoming group. The discussion quickly elevated from simple packing lists to high-level strategic advice on navigating academic rigor, immersing in Cambridge traditions, executing career pivots, and cultivating strategic relationships.

From Cambridge MBA to international arbitration: ‘Giving to Gain’ in construction disputes

A female standing facing the camera.

Working in construction disputes in the City of London, I often draw on perspectives shaped during my Cambridge MBA. Through initiatives with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and involvement in international arbitration events, I have seen how contributing to professional communities creates opportunities for learning, collaboration, and growth across the interconnected worlds of engineering, law, and business.

Breaking barriers in construction: Reflections from London International Disputes Week

Daisy Ong'angi

During London International Disputes Week, Daisy, our Cambridge MBA alumna attended Breaking Barriers – Women in Construction at White & Case LLP. The panel, featuring industry leaders like Rebecca Shorter and Kim Franklin KC, explored the gender disparities in construction and disputes, with women representing only 15% of the workforce and less than 13% of arbitrators globally. The session emphasised the need for equal representation and encouraged women to pursue opportunities, even without meeting 100% of the qualifications. Despite the challenges, the panel highlighted how women are driving change in the industry.

Over the course of the year, Tony immersed himself in the Cambridge experience: leading the Cambridge China Business Society, co-hosting a global webinar on entrepreneurship, and even meeting his future wife, a fellow MBA classmate. Today, he’s back in Shanghai, co-founding a new venture with a Cambridge alumnus and helping build the University’s alumni network in China — a testament to how one year at Cambridge can shape a lifetime.
